Vanessa Garbutt is a director within the data practice at Alpha FMC — a boutique consultancy specialising in asset and wealth management — based in Melbourne, Australia.

She specialises in data governance, data strategy and the organisational foundations that enable AI and enterprise transformation. With over 20 years’ experience across institutional investment management, banking and credit reporting, she has designed and delivered data governance frameworks, target operating models and enterprise data strategies for some of the APAC’s most complex sovereign wealth funds, asset owners and managers.

Her work consistently sits at the intersection of governance, operating model design, and AI-readiness: translating strategic intent into the practical frameworks, ownership structures and data standards that organisations need to scale.

Prior to consulting, Vanessa held senior data management roles at ANZ Banking Group and Equifax. She is a Certified Data Management Professional (DAMA CDMP).
