Joel Grant
Principal,
Jolly Rambler
Joel applies investment governance to investment technology and data programs for institutional asset owners.
He spent a decade at the Future Fund, Australia’s sovereign wealth fund that manages A$335bn. Most recently as executive director, investment capability & intelligence, he served as chief of staff to the CIO and owned the governance of the investment team’s technology and data program. He led a wholesale review of how that program was structured, prioritised, held accountable; and established and chaired the investment technology and data committee: the governance body accountable for investment technology strategy.
Joel started his career as an infrastructure analyst at Hastings Funds Management before operating at the intersection of policy, regulation, and complex commercial environments: as energy adviser to the Commonwealth Minister for Resources and Energy, and subsequently in a senior corporate affairs role at Origin Energy. That experience informs a unique perspective on how institutions make decisions and why governance matters.
Joel holds a Master of Applied Positive Psychology from the University of Melbourne, where his thesis examined how leaders navigate career transition, informed by his own experience as a former ministerial adviser. He completed the Leadership Decision Making Program at Harvard Kennedy School. He has a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts from Monash University.
